WebCT Week of Workshops, 2nd Edition
August 7-11, 2006 ITDC 108 (301 S. Main St.)

Prep Week Calendar | Workshop Descriptions

WebCT Week of Workshops” is a series of one-day workshops for ISU faculty providing instruction and coaching on major WebCT components. WebCT is ISU’s increasingly popular “course management system” for faculty to use when teaching online courses or when adding online portions to an onsite course. With WebCT, you don’t have to become a “webmaster” to use the internet in your instruction because WebCT provides all the formatting and many useful digital tools for instructors.

We offered a WebCT Week in June earlier this summer and the announcement generated a strong demand for the workshops. Based on that response, and the many positive comments we received from participants, we scheduled this second session to help you prepare for fall courses.

We have eight coaching session planned, each available multiple times on multiple days to help fit your busy schedule. Each is designed to provide you with the instruction, advice, or guidance at the level that you need.

The workshops are useful for novice WebCT users who want to begin to take advantage of online instructional tools in their courses. They are also useful for WebCT veterans who want to expand their ability to incorporate the rich array of instructional tools that WebCT provides. Workshops include instruction and hands-on coaching time so that you come away with real progress on your WebCT course. Each workshop will be limited to 17 participants to maximize access to instruction and coaching.

We’re offering one-day workshops rather than a week-long program. This “a la carte” approach allows you to customize your experience to fit your instructional needs and available time. You’re also more likely to be successful if you take on smaller projects and do them well, rather than attempting wholesale revisions of your teaching. So, we encourage you to use your judgment about what you could realistically implement and avoid getting overwhelmed by taking on too much at any one time.

In recognition of the time and energy that you are putting toward advancing your teaching skills, CTLT is offering stipends of $100/workshop to all ISU faculty (NTTs, tenure-track, tenured). In addition, CTLT provides refreshments at breaks and lunch for all participants in each day’s workshop.
