Early-Career Professional Development Circles

Launching an academic career is a daunting challenge, especially if you try to do it alone. Join your early-career peers (faculty in their first three years of teaching at Illinois State University) in a program designed to reduce your stress and increase your success. You are warmly invited to join CTLT’s Fall 2009 “Early-Career Professional Development Circle.” Here are the basics:

Who is invited?
Anyone in his/her first, second, or third year of teaching at Illinois State University is welcome.
Where do we meet?
The Circle meets in the CTLT Instructional Resource Commons in the ITDC Building, 301 S. Main, just north of Jimmy John’s.
When do we meet?

The Circles meet from 3:30-4:30 on the following dates. Thursday sessions repeat the content from Wednesday sessions, so pick the day that’s most convenient:

And mark your calendars now for . . .
END OF SEMESTER LUNCHEON Friday, December 4, Noon-2:00 pm

Why should I come?
The Circle is designed to achieve two important outcomes:
  • to provide early-career faculty with the social support they need to counter the stress of beginning a teaching career in higher education
  • to provide early-career faculty with answers to their questions about teaching and learning in an effort to help them accelerate their success in the classroom
Who will facilitate the Circle?
The Circle facilitator is Dr. Claire Lamonica, CTLT Associate Director. Claire has almost three decades of teaching experience—most of them in higher education, almost two decades of experience in teacher preparation and professional development, and a career-long interest in working with students and faculty at “points of transition.”
How can I get more information?
