You can now hone your online teaching skills through online workshops from the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) thanks to a pilot program sponsored by Extended University.
Sloan-C online workshops typically run for 2 – 3 weeks and are primarily asynchronous – that is, YOU determine the time and place of your participation. Some workshops may have a minimal synchronous (real-time) component using Elluminate, a web conferencing program that you access online – no special software will be needed. For those unable to attend a synchronous meeting, the live sessions are recorded and can be accessed online. Workshops require a 5 - 10 hour commitment each week, but it is an investment that will pay dividends for semesters to come. Additionally, you’ll have access to all of the workshop materials long after the workshop is over!
The pilot program provides more than 100 seats for Illinois State University faculty members to participate in workshops on a wide range of topics related to online and blended instruction. The program will continue through December 2009, and if faculty participate and report positively on their workshop experiences, consideration will be given to continuing Illinois State University’s membership.
